The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 12, a national public holiday in celebration of Democracy Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. He said the day is dedicated to honoring the sacrifices, courage, and resilience of Nigerians who played vital roles in shaping and sustaining the country’s democratic journey.
According to the minister, Democracy Day serves as a reminder of Nigeria’s commitment to democratic values, national unity, and inclusive governance.
The public holiday will also provide workers with a long weekend and an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s democratic achievements and the collective efforts required to strengthen its institutions.
Citizens seeking information on other national and religious holidays scheduled throughout the year are encouraged to follow updates from the Ministry of Interior and other official government channels.
