The 2025 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council Press Week reaches its peak today, Thursday, November 20, 2025, with a grand finale scheduled to hold at Orchid Hotel, DBS Road, Asaba, by 11 a.m.
This year’s Press Week, themed “Tax Regimes and Exchange Rate Unification: Economic Implications and the Media’s Strategic Role,” brings together media professionals, policymakers, scholars, and key stakeholders to examine urgent national economic issues and the media’s responsibility in shaping public understanding.
Activities for the week commenced on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, with an engaging football match between NUJ members and the Nigeria Medical Assist, Asaba Branch, held at the NTA Asaba Field.
The Grand Finale will feature a keynote lecture to be delivered by Distinguished Senator Joel Onowakpor Thomas, Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District at the National Assembly. His insight is expected to shed light on Nigeria’s tax architecture, exchange rate policies, and their broader socio-economic consequences.
The event will also host the Special Guest of Honour, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, who is expected to address journalists and reaffirm the state government’s commitment to press freedom and media development.
The NUJ President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, serves as Chief Host, while the Chairman of the NUJ Delta State Council, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, will host the occasion.
Chairman of the 2025 Press Week Committee, Comrade Pere Botu, and the Committee Secretary, Comrade Barth Ozah, have assured participants of a memorable ceremony, highlighting that this year’s celebration underscores the critical role of journalism in Nigeria’s evolving economic landscape.
The event will also feature recognition awards to distinguished personalities and journalists who have made notable contributions to the media profession and society.
