Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Thursday, said education remains one of the most powerful tools for societal transformation.

He commended Midwestern Oil and Gas Company Limited for its consistent investment in education, youth empowerment, technical capacity development, and community support.

Speaking when the Managing Director of the company, Mrs Elozino Olaniyi and her management team paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Asaba, Oborevwori said the company’s scholarship programmes is impactful.

Welcoming the team, the Governor expressed appreciation for the company’s sustained collaboration with the state, noting that Midwestern Oil and Gas has demonstrated that growth in the energy sector must go hand in hand with social responsibility.

He said: “Investing in students today secures the future of our state tomorrow,” acknowledging the company’s strong safety record and environmental responsibility, highlighting its achievement of over seven million man-hours without a Lost Time Injury as a reflection of discipline and professionalism.

“In an industry as sensitive as oil and gas, environmental responsibility and transparency are not optional, they are essential,” he stated.

The Governor assured the delegation that his administration remains committed to creating an enabling environment where responsible businesses can thrive.

He said the state government would continue to strengthen policies that promote local content participation, community inclusion, and sustainable development.

According to him, collaboration between government and the private sector is critical to ensuring peace, economic stability, and long-term growth.

He encouraged Midwestern Oil and Gas to deepen its engagement with host communities, particularly in renewable energy, infrastructure development, and youth employment, assuring that the government remains open to constructive dialogue and strategic partnerships that advance the collective interest of the people.

Governor Oborevwori further commended Mrs. Olaniyi’s leadership in the highly technical oil and gas sector, describing her visit as a reinforcement of a shared vision of progress built on accountability, innovation, and community impact.

Earlier, Mrs. Olaniyi said the company views oil and gas operations beyond profit-making, stressing that values and non-financial impact are central to its mission.

“For us, oil and gas is not only about money. It is about values. It is about non-financial experience,” she said, adding that the company believes in working collaboratively to ensure communities experience lasting impact.

She disclosed that since assuming office, the company has strengthened its focus on education and capacity building, awarding scholarships this year to 298 students across the country, with over $2 million invested.

The scholarships cover secondary and tertiary education, including beneficiaries from Delta State and other host communities, with some students currently studying in the United States and Latvia.
