Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Benjamin Elue, who passed away at the age of 85.
In a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, the governor described Elue as a loyal patriot, seasoned administrator, and committed party stalwart whose contributions to the growth and stability of Delta State would remain indelible.
Elue served as Deputy Governor to former Governor James Ibori from 1999 to 2007. During his tenure, he was widely regarded for his humility, dedication to duty, and steadfast loyalty to the administration.
According to the statement, Governor Oborevwori said the news of Elue’s death was received with shock and pain, but also with gratitude to God for what he described as a fulfilled life of service to Delta State and Nigeria.
The governor noted that beyond politics, Elue was a respected teacher who devoted much of his life to mentoring younger generations. He added that the late statesman’s calm disposition, wisdom, and commitment to unity played a significant role in strengthening democratic governance in Delta State, particularly in the early years of the Fourth Republic.
Oborevwori further praised Elue’s dedication to peace and unity in the state, saying his exemplary service earned him respect across political divides.
He extended condolences to the Elue family, the people of Aniocha North, the Delta North Senatorial District, and the entire state, praying for the peaceful repose of the departed elder statesman and strength for his loved ones to bear the loss.
