Flights from Nigeria to several Middle East destinations have been disrupted following escalating tensions in the region, with some international airlines suspending operations.
The disruption comes after Iran reportedly launched reprisal attacks on United States military bases across parts of the Middle East on Saturday morning. Explosions were reported in cities including Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Manama in Bahrain, Doha in Qatar, Kuwait City in Kuwait, and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, according to multiple media reports.
TheCable reports that Nigerian passengers scheduled to travel on Qatar Airways from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja were unable to depart as planned. Affected passengers were reportedly provided with hotel accommodation amid the uncertainty surrounding flight operations.
Airlines are said to be reviewing security and operational risks as tensions continue to rise, leading to temporary suspensions and cancellations on select routes across the region.
