Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has condemned the kidnapping incident reported at the Vegetable Market along Airport Road in Benin City, describing the attack as unacceptable and a threat to the safety of residents.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, the governor directed the Edo State Commissioner of Police to launch an immediate and coordinated investigation into the incident, with the aim of securing the safe rescue of the victims and apprehending those responsible.

Okpebholo stressed that his administration would not tolerate any act capable of undermining public safety, security, or the peace of the state.

“The Edo State Government will not tolerate any act that threatens public safety and security or disturbs the peace of the state,” the governor said.

He urged residents of Benin City and other parts of Edo State to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station, noting that timely information would aid ongoing security operations.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that the government would not relent until the perpetrators of the kidnapping were arrested and brought to justice.

The incident at the Airport Road Vegetable Market has heightened concerns over security in the area, with residents calling for increased surveillance and stronger security measures to prevent further attacks.

The statement was signed by Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, and made available to journalists on June 14, 2026.
