Ekpoma, Edo State — Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sorrow and condemnation over the kidnapping and killing of a young man in Ekpoma on Friday, January 9, 2026, describing the incident as tragic and heartbreaking.
In a statement on Saturday, the governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and the entire Ekpoma community, noting that the incident has caused widespread fear, anger, and frustration, particularly among residents and students of Ambrose Alli University.
Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed that the safety of lives and property across Edo State remains his highest priority, stressing that no resident should be forced to live in fear or feel unsafe in their own community.
He disclosed that he personally visited Ekpoma to assess the situation firsthand and held meetings with community members and key stakeholders. According to him, following the visit, he directed security agencies to immediately intensify operations in Ekpoma and its surrounding areas to prevent further incidents.
The governor assured residents that the state government is working closely with all relevant security authorities to ensure that those responsible for the crime are apprehended and brought to justice, while measures are put in place to restore peace and calm in the area.
“I hear the voices of our people, and I am committed to taking decisive action. I stand with Ekpoma, and I will not relent until safety is fully restored,” the governor said.
