Former Edo State Governor and senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has launched a scathing attack on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), questioning the organization’s reputation and accusing it of being associated with corruption.

Speaking during a public engagement, Oshiomhole dismissed claims that the state-owned oil company enjoys a positive reputation among Nigerians, arguing that many people seek employment opportunities there because of a widespread perception that the institution is linked to illicit enrichment.

“NNPCL has no reputation. Your reputation is for fraud,” Oshiomhole said. “I listened and heard you say that people want their children to be employed in NNPCL. Yes, because it is a house of thieves, and they want their children to benefit from it.”

The remarks have sparked reactions across political and economic circles, given NNPCL’s strategic role in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. Oshiomhole’s comments add to longstanding public debates about transparency, accountability, and governance within the country’s petroleum industry.

As of the time of filing this report, NNPCL had not publicly responded to the senator’s allegations.

The development is expected to reignite discussions about reforms in the oil sector and the management of Nigeria’s petroleum resources.
