The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make public the academic certificates and other credentials submitted by all candidates seeking elective offices in Nigeria.
Obi said such a move would promote transparency, strengthen public confidence in the electoral process, and allow Nigerians to independently verify the qualifications of those aspiring to hold public office.
According to him, making candidates’ credentials openly accessible would enhance accountability, discourage the submission of questionable documents, and reinforce the credibility of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
He stressed that greater openness by INEC would not only improve the integrity of elections but also reassure citizens that candidates meet the constitutional requirements for the offices they seek.
Obi maintained that transparency remains a critical pillar of democracy and urged the electoral umpire to adopt measures that would deepen trust in the nation’s electoral system.
