The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, following the execution of a warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Adeyemi was apprehended after he allegedly failed to appear before the court for his scheduled arraignment, prompting the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
He is expected to be arraigned on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, obtaining by false pretence, fraud and impersonation.
According to court documents, the charges stem from allegations that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the head of a non-existent presidential council and is accused of using forged documents and false representations in carrying out the alleged scheme.
The prosecution is expected to formally present the charges before the Federal High Court once the defendant is produced in court.
The case is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement authorities to clamp down on individuals accused of impersonating government officials and using fake government agencies to allegedly defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
Adeyemi is expected to take his plea when he is arraigned before the court.
