SDU Clarifies HND Conversion Programme, Says Applicants Can Enrol With Authentic Certificates

Southern Delta University (SDU), Ozoro, Delta State, has clarified key requirements for its HND conversion programme, assuring prospective applicants that holders of authentic HND certificates from polytechnics across Nigeria can apply for the programme.

The university’s clarification comes amid growing interest in its HND conversion programme, particularly among graduates seeking to further their academic qualifications.

According to information released on the programme, applicants who obtained their HND from institutions outside the former Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, are also eligible to apply, provided their certificates and academic records are authentic and meet the university’s requirements.

The programme is structured as a part-time course, allowing participants to combine their studies with work or other engagements.

Lectures are held on selected weekdays, with the programme currently structured around Thursdays and Fridays, according to the information provided by the institution.

The HND conversion programme is expected to run for approximately two years, with students undertaking academic work comparable to the duration of a conventional HND programme.

On tuition, available information indicates that students paid approximately ₦170,000 for the first year in the previous academic session, while fees for the final year were below ₦150,000.

However, prospective students have been advised to confirm the current fees and other financial requirements for the 2026/2027 academic session, as charges may be subject to review.

The university has also clarified that applicants may not arbitrarily switch to an entirely different course through the conversion programme.

For instance, a candidate who previously studied Marketing may not automatically switch to Accounting. Applicants are generally expected to continue with their previous discipline or a related course, subject to the university’s admission requirements.

The renewed interest in the programme is believed to have been partly triggered by growing awareness of academic progression opportunities available to holders of National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and bachelor’s degree qualifications.

The university, however, noted that there could be changes to the programme’s structure, fees or requirements for the 2026/2027 academic session and said any such changes would be communicated to the public.

Prospective applicants are therefore advised to obtain confirmation directly from Southern Delta University before making payments or commencing the admission process.
