Former member of the House of Representatives, Abba Adamu, has reportedly been killed by bandits after being abducted along the notorious Kaduna-Abuja expressway.
Adamu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State, represented the Birniwa/Guri/Kirikasamma federal constituency between 2007 and 2011.
He was kidnapped on Monday at the Jere axis of the Abuja-Kaduna road while travelling to Abuja for a political engagement. He was abducted alongside his associate, Ali Tukur Gantsa.
Sources said the gunmen later contacted the victims’ families and demanded ransom for their release. However, despite reports that ransom was paid, Adamu was allegedly killed by the bandits, throwing his family, political associates and supporters into mourning.
The incident has again raised concerns over the worsening insecurity and frequent attacks on commuters along the Abuja-Kaduna highway, a route long plagued by kidnappings and banditry.
