Police in Cross River State have launched an intensive manhunt for a 30-year-old man, Sunday Ejor, who is accused of brutally killing his 26-year-old partner and fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred on March 29, 2026, in Ekajuk community, located in Ogoja Local Government Area, leaving residents in shock over the gruesome nature of the crime.
According to local sources, the suspect had been residing in Lagos before returning to his hometown after reportedly being linked to a separate murder case. Upon his return, he began living with the victim, Lucy Moshe Igu, a native of Abrumbede in Ekajuk. Family members described her as peaceful and hardworking.
Tensions reportedly escalated in the relationship after Ejor accused Lucy of infidelity, leading to frequent disputes. On the day of the incident, one such argument allegedly turned violent, with Ejor attacking her using a machete.
Lucy sustained multiple fatal injuries. The suspect is said to have dragged her body into a nearby bush in an attempt to conceal the crime before fleeing.
Residents later discovered the body after noticing bloodstains leading into the bush and promptly alerted authorities.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the state, DSP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident, stating that security agencies are actively collaborating to apprehend the suspect.
“We are working with relevant security networks across the state and beyond to track down the suspect. Anyone with useful information should report to the nearest police station,” she said.
The victim’s remains have been deposited at the General Hospital in Ogoja for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family has called for justice, expressing deep grief over her death. Community leaders have also urged security agencies to intensify efforts to prevent such violent crimes and maintain peace in the area.
