The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has congratulated Dr. Fidelia Chukwudumebi Ighrakpata on her appointment as the new Provost of the College of Education, Warri, describing it as historic and well-deserved.

In a congratulatory message made available to newsmen by his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Nkem Nwaeke, the Speaker said Dr Ighrakpata’s elevation was a reflection of her nearly three-decade track record of academic excellence and administrative competence in the institution.

Guwor who is the Chairman Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, also described her emergence as the first internal female Provost of the college as a testament to her dedication, professionalism, and distinguished service.

Rt Hon Guwor said he has no doubt that her wealth of experience will steer the college to greater heights of academic excellence and institutional growth.

While felicitating with Dr Ighrakpata on attaining the peak of her career in the College, the Speaker assured the new Provost of the Assembly’s partnership in advancing the college’s mandate and wished her a successful tenure.

He noted that the Delta State House of Assembly remained committed to supporting policies and legislation that strengthen tertiary education in the state.

“The 8th Assembly, under my leadership, will continue to work closely with the executive to ensure that institutions like the College of Education, Warri, receive the legislative backing needed for infrastructural development, staff capacity building, and improved academic standards”, Guwor said.

The Speaker added that sustaining peace, stability, and quality in the education sector was central to the state government’s MORE Agenda, stressing that the Assembly would continue to prioritize oversight and budgetary support to achieve measurable outcomes.

“Teacher education is the foundation of our human capital development. The House will always ensure that the sector gets the attention it deserves so that our colleges can produce graduates who are competitive and ready for the future,” the Speaker added.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had approved the appointment of Dr. Ighrakpata, making her the first internal female to head the institution since its establishment in 1979.

She also takes the position 24 years after her late father, Professor Alfred Unomah, served as the 3rd substantive Provost of the College.
