President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), bringing to an end the 10-year tenure of Professor Ishaq Oloyede, which officially concludes on July 31, 2026.

At 39, Professor Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), becomes the youngest person ever appointed to lead the nation’s tertiary admissions agency.

Professor Aina holds academic qualifications from the University of Kent and Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School, further strengthening his leadership credentials.

Before his appointment, he built a strong reputation in examination administration and technology, serving as a consultant on ICT and examination integrity for key examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).

Interestingly, his relationship with JAMB began during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, where he served with the board, laying the foundation for a career that has now culminated in his appointment as Registrar.

His appointment is expected to usher in a new phase for JAMB, with many observers anticipating a stronger focus on technology-driven innovation, examination security, and institutional reforms.
