President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, into law, extending the implementation period of the 2025 budget from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 30, by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the extension followed the swift passage of the amendment by both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The Presidency said the extension would give Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) additional time to complete ongoing capital projects.
It added that the measure would ensure that funds already appropriated are fully utilised for the benefit of Nigerians while preventing disruptions to critical government programmes.
President Tinubu also commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration of the bill, describing it as a further indication of cooperation between the Executive and Legislature in the service of the country.
The amended budget will now remain in implementation until December 31, 2026.
