The Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and Nigerians across the country and in the diaspora on Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Guwor conveyed the message on Wednesday during plenary at the Delta State House of Assembly in Asaba, shortly before the lawmakers adjourned proceedings in honour of the national celebration.
In his remarks, the Speaker urged Nigerians to reflect on the significance of the country’s independence and renew their commitment to nation-building, unity, peace, justice and equity.
“On behalf of the Delta State House of Assembly, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, my esteemed colleagues, and indeed all Nigerians on the occasion of our 66th Independence Anniversary,” Guwor said.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, Guwor said Nigeria, 66 years after independence, remained blessed with enormous human and natural resources, resilience and diversity.
He acknowledged the challenges facing the nation but maintained that the Nigerian spirit had remained unbroken.
Guwor also commended President Tinubu for what he described as bold economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, while praising Governor Oborevwori for his people-focused leadership in Delta State through the M.O.R.E Agenda.
He said the administration’s efforts had contributed to peace, infrastructural renewal and inclusive development across the state.
“At 66, our nation has come a long way. We have faced storms, but we have also recorded remarkable progress. This is a moment for sober reflection, for thanksgiving, and for renewed commitment to the ideals of our founding fathers, including unity, peace, justice and equity,” he said.
The Speaker reaffirmed the commitment of the Delta State House of Assembly to enacting legislation aimed at promoting good governance, security and economic prosperity.
“As a legislature, we reaffirm our commitment to making laws that will promote good governance, security and economic prosperity for all Deltans and Nigerians. We will continue to partner with the executive to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people,” Guwor stated.
He also called on Nigerians, particularly youths, to remain patriotic, hopeful and united, stressing that nation-building required the collective contribution of citizens.
“Let us use this Independence anniversary to rekindle our love for country, to shun divisive tendencies, and to work together for a greater Nigeria where no one is left behind,” he added.
Guwor concluded by wishing Nigerians a peaceful Independence Anniversary and praying for continued peace, prosperity and divine blessings upon the country.
“On behalf of my family, the good people of Warri South West Constituency, the entire Delta State House of Assembly and the Conference of Speakers, I wish all Nigerians a happy and peaceful 66th Independence Anniversary. May God continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the Speaker said.
