President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The nomination, announced by the Presidency, is in line with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007.

Yuguda’s appointment follows the recent redeployment of the former Deputy Governor, Bala Bello, who has been named Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President urged the appointee to bring renewed dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the role in support of Nigeria’s economic stability and growth.

Before his nomination, Yuguda served as Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission Nigeria from 2020 to 2024.

He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy and later obtained a Master’s degree in Money, Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, in 1991.

Yuguda is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

He began his career at the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1984 as a Senior Supervisor in the Foreign Operations Department. Between 1997 and 2001, he served as an economist in the Africa Department of the International Monetary Fund before returning to the CBN.

Yuguda later rose through the ranks and retired from the apex bank in 2016 after serving for six years as Director of the Reserve Management Department.

The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
