The royal entrance of His Royal Majesty, Dr. Emmanuel Ekemejewan Sideso, Abe I (JP, OON), Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom and Chairman of the Urhobo Traditional Rulers Council, was one of the major highlights of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) UK 95th Annual Convention and Urhobo Day Celebration held in London on August 30, 2026.
The colourful ceremony brought together members of the Urhobo community, traditional leaders, professionals, youths and other stakeholders to celebrate the rich cultural heritage, history and identity of the Urhobo people.
The event provided an opportunity for the Urhobo in the United Kingdom to reconnect with their roots, strengthen communal bonds and promote the values and traditions that have shaped the Urhobo people over generations.
The presence of the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom and Chairman of the Urhobo Traditional Rulers Council added significant traditional importance to the celebration, underscoring the enduring relationship between the Urhobo people at home and in the diaspora.
Beyond its ceremonial value, the celebration highlighted the important role culture plays in human development and socio-economic growth.
