Former President Bill Clinton on Friday repeatedly denied having any knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal conduct during what he described as a “brief acquaintance” with the late financier, according to CNN.
Clinton was questioned for more than six hours by lawmakers seeking to clarify the nature of his past interactions with Epstein and to determine whether he had any awareness of the disgraced financier’s activities.
According to CNN, Clinton maintained throughout the session that he was unaware of Epstein’s crimes and characterized their relationship as limited. The former president has previously acknowledged traveling on Epstein’s private plane and meeting him on several occasions, but has consistently denied any knowledge of or involvement in illegal conduct.
The questioning comes amid renewed scrutiny of Epstein’s connections to high-profile political and business figures. Epstein, who faced federal sex trafficking charges in 2019, died in jail that same year while awaiting trial.
Lawmakers have not publicly detailed specific findings from the session, but the lengthy interview underscores ongoing efforts to examine Epstein’s network of associates and the extent of their knowledge of his crimes.
Clinton’s representatives have previously said he cut off contact with Epstein well before the financier’s arrest and was unaware of the allegations that later came to light.
