IYAMHO, Edo State — The Uzairue Sons and Daughters Forum has called for stronger collaboration between Edo State University, Iyamho, the Edo State Government and host communities to accelerate the development of the institution and improve the welfare of students.
The call was made on Monday, September 7, 2026, when the Forum paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Edo State University, Iyamho, Prof. Victor Olawale Adetimirin, and members of the University Management team.
Led by its President, Amir Sirajudeen Muhammad, the delegation comprised representatives from various Uzairue communities and congratulated Prof. Adetimirin on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor.
The Forum also used the visit to raise issues concerning the development of the University and its host communities, including the uncompleted Edo State University Teaching Hospital complex, appointments within the institution, electricity supply, and the welfare and safety of medical students travelling from the main campus to the Teaching Hospital in Auchi for clinical postings.
Responding to the concerns, Prof. Adetimirin explained that the Teaching Hospital complex is a project of the Edo State Government and that its completion is beyond the financial capacity of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, however, said efforts were ongoing by the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to ensure the completion of the project.
On electricity supply, Prof. Adetimirin acknowledged challenges previously experienced by the University but disclosed that the institution now enjoys between 18 and 20 hours of electricity supply daily following its upgrade from Band C to Band A.
According to him, the improved power supply comes at a monthly cost of more than N45 million to the University.
He added that Management was also working towards developing a solar power project as part of efforts to provide a more sustainable and reliable alternative source of electricity for the institution.
Addressing concerns about appointments, the Vice-Chancellor assured the Forum that the University remains committed to recruiting competent and qualified personnel capable of advancing its vision of becoming a world-class university.
He explained that academic appointments are based on merit and competence, as well as the need to maintain the University’s high academic standards.
Prof. Adetimirin also disclosed that the University continues to provide indigent scholarships to deserving students facing financial difficulties.
He said Management was determined to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent qualified students from accessing quality education.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, 17 students recently benefited from the University’s Indigent Students Scholarship Scheme.
The Forum commended the University Management for its efforts and called for sustained cooperation among the University, the Edo State Government and the host communities.
The delegation said such collaboration would contribute significantly to the continued development of Edo State University and strengthen its relationship with surrounding communities.
The visit ended on a positive note, with both the Forum and University Management expressing their commitment to deepening their relationship and working together to promote the continued growth and development of Edo State University, Iyamho.
