As victims of the recent Okpuje gun attack continue to receive medical attention, the Media Office of the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has clarified the reason behind the Speaker’s transfer of ₦1,000,000 (One Million Naira) to the Chairman of Owan West Local Government Council, Hon. Joy Ohonyon.

Responding to public concerns suggesting that the Speaker had not shown support for the victims’ medical expenses, the Media Office confirmed that Rt. Hon. Agbebaku sent the sum of One Million Naira to Hon. Joy Ohonyon for the victims’ treatment just one day after the unfortunate incident occurred.

“The Speaker is a man filled with empathy and compassion, who understands the financial strain that often accompanies such unexpected tragedies,” the statement read.

The Media Office further noted that Rt. Hon. Agbebaku had raised the Okpuje incident on the floor of the House, where the Assembly directed the Commissioner of Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

“He did not stop at legislative action,” the statement continued. “He went further to personally support the victims by sending the sum to Hon. Joy Ohonyon to ensure they receive adequate medical care.”

The Speaker reassured the people of Okpuje of his unwavering commitment to ensuring justice for all affected and promised to continue monitoring the situation until justice is served.
