The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, December 25; Thursday, December 26; and Thursday, January 1, 2026, as public holidays in celebration of Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and the New Year.
The declaration was made on Monday as part of the government’s annual tradition of marking major religious and national festivities across the country. The holidays are intended to allow Nigerians to celebrate with family and loved ones, as well as reflect on the significance of the season.
Christmas Day and Boxing Day are observed by Christians worldwide to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ and promote values of peace, love, and goodwill, while the New Year holiday provides an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the outgoing year and prepare for the year ahead.
The Federal Government urged Nigerians to use the festive period to foster unity, tolerance, and harmony, while also celebrating responsibly. Citizens were also encouraged to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the holiday period.
Normal official activities are expected to resume nationwide after the holidays.
