The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has congratulated the 25 Local Government Council Chairmen in the state on the occasion of their 2nd year anniversary in office, which falls today, Wednesday July 15, 2026.
Rt Hon Guwor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, described the two years as a period of remarkable progress in grassroots governance, noting that the Chairmen have served as critical drivers of development at the third tier of government.
The Speaker commended the Council Chairmen who have made great impact through the delivery of tangible dividends of democracy to their people in the areas of road infrastructure, primary healthcare, education, security, youth empowerment and rural development.
“On behalf of the Delta State House of Assembly, I heartily congratulate our 25 Local Government Chairmen on attaining two years in office. This milestone is worth celebrating because it reflects commitment, service and dedication to the people at the grassroots”, Guwor stated.
Speaker commended the Chairmen for their unflinching support for good governance and the MORE Agenda of the Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori administration, stressing that their alignment with the state government’s vision has deepened development across the 25 councils.
“Your support for the MORE Agenda has helped in bringing government closer to the people. The synergy between the state and local governments is already yielding positive results and I urge you to sustain this partnership”, the Speaker added.
While acknowledging the achievements so far, Rt Hon Guwor who is the Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, admonished the Chairmen to do more in the remaining part of their tenure to ensure greater impact in grassroots governance and sustainable development.
“The people at the grassroots expect more. I urge you to redouble your efforts, be more innovative, and ensure that governance gets to the last man in the remotest village. Let your remaining years be defined by legacy projects that will stand the test of time”, he said.
The Speaker further reminded the Council Chairmen of the forthcoming general elections and the need to mobilize their people for voter education, peaceful political engagement, and continued support for democratic institutions.
He charged them to remain united, transparent, accountable and responsive in the discharge of their duties, noting that the House of Assembly will continue to provide legislative support and oversight to strengthen local government administration in the state.
“As we approach another election season, let us use our positions to preach peace, unity and inclusive governance. The success of our democracy depends on how well we serve at the grassroots”, Guwor concluded.
The Speaker prayed for wisdom, strength and God’s guidance for the Chairmen as they continue to serve Deltans.
