The Director-General of the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, Senator James Manager, has urged party candidates to embrace issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the need to win voters’ confidence through verifiable achievements, ongoing projects and clear policy proposals.
Manager gave the charge shortly after a meeting of the Central Campaign Council, where he was accompanied by the Chairman of the Council’s Media and Publicity Committee, Mr Charles Aniagwu, as well as Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and Elder Godsday Orubebe.
He called on candidates, party leaders and supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and in strict compliance with electoral laws, warning against violence, unnecessary confrontation and other forms of political misconduct.
According to him, the APC intends to use its campaign platform, particularly the formal flag-off scheduled for November 5 in Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area, to present its scorecard to the electorate and outline its plans for the future.
“Whatever campaigns the candidates are doing must be issue-based. I am sure all of you will listen to us on what we have done, what we are doing and what we will do next once we are re-elected,” Manager said.
The former senator maintained that the party was committed to constructive political engagement rather than confrontation, insisting that candidates should convince voters through facts, performance and well-articulated programmes.
“We are not looking for trouble from anybody, and we only hope and pray that people will also not look for trouble from us,” he added.
He described electioneering as an essential part of the democratic process, which should be driven by peaceful activities such as singing, dancing and, most importantly, communicating the truth to voters rather than engaging in violence.
Manager further explained that the meeting was the first gathering of the Central Campaign Council’s leadership since its inauguration.
He noted that the council had previously held engagements with other components of the campaign structure, including local government management committees and various support groups.
He said the meeting was organised to update members on preparations, assess progress made so far and deliberate on strategies for the successful take-off of the party’s campaign activities.
The Campaign Council Director-General also disclosed that the Isoko Nation would host Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on November 3, two days before the official campaign flag-off in Oleh.
He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to coordinating campaign activities and mobilising support for all APC candidates contesting the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and State House of Assembly elections in 2027.
