Today, November 7, 2025, marks the 41st birthday of Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, the young, dynamic and visionary Delta State Commissioner for Health. A man of purpose, intellect, and compassion, Dr. Onojaeme has, in just a few years, left indelible footprints in Delta State’s health sector, bringing his wealth of experience, passion for service, and people-centered leadership to bear on his role.

Appointed by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Dr. Onojaeme has been a driving force behind the administration’s unprecedented investment in healthcare. Under his stewardship, the Delta State Government has committed over ₦3 billion to procure modern medical equipment including radiotherapy lights, incubators, and CT scanners, Haemodialysis machines for hospitals in Warri and Oghara as well as the upgrade of more than 150 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state.

Recognizing that human capital is the heartbeat of healthcare delivery, his ministry has overseen the replacement of exiting health personnel, the employment of 40 new doctors, and secured approvals to train House Officers at the Ughelli and Sapele Central Hospitals. Furthermore, Delta has continued to provide free healthcare for pregnant women and children under five, ensuring that the vulnerable are never left behind. This proactive intervention has led to a remarkable improvement in maternal and child health outcomes, with the state’s maternal mortality rate dropping from over 200 to less than 120 per 100,000 live births, a testament to the administration’s commitment to saving lives and strengthening healthcare delivery.

Dr. Onojaeme’s tenure has also witnessed the digitalization of hospital records, the enrolment of over two million people into the State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme, and the approval of ₦1.6 billion in equity funds to enhance hospital maintenance and operations. His foresight in institutional development has birthed the College of Health Technology, Ovrode, sustained the Ofuoma-Ughelli campus, and inspired the establishment of a new College of Health Sciences at Southern Delta University, Ozoro, a legacy that secures a steady pipeline of qualified health professionals for Delta’s future.

Beyond his official duties, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme remains a steadfast son of Isoko North, a powerful support system for youths, women, and elders of the Isoko nation. Through his influence, Ovrode, his hometown, has witnessed the establishment of the College of Health Technology and the long-awaited construction of the Ovrode–Aradhe Road, linking the community to the Ughelli–Asaba Expressway. His numerous empowerment initiatives, medical outreaches, and support for small businesses continue to uplift lives across Delta State.

Fittingly, as he celebrates today, 130 entrepreneurs are being empowered to expand their enterprises, a testament to his enduring commitment to human and economic development.

A former President of the Students’ Union Government at the University of Benin, Dr. Onojaeme has seamlessly translated his early leadership experience into effective public service, embodying the ideals of dedication, accountability, and inclusivity.

As Dr. Joseph Onojaeme turns 41, he stands tall as a model of transformational leadership, a champion of community development, and an astute health administrator whose vision continues to shape a healthier, stronger Delta State.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, your impact speaks volumes, and your legacy continues to inspire.
