President Bola Tinubu has launched a free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration initiative for 50,000 students across Nigeria’s Southeast region as part of his Renewed Hope Agenda.
The programme, unveiled on Tuesday in Enugu, will provide 10,000 prospective JAMB candidates in each of the five Southeast states with ₦8,500 to cover registration fees for the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Speaking at the launch, the National Coordinator of the Southeast Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA), Belusochukwu Enwerem, said the initiative reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and empowering young people in the region.
“Today is not just a ceremony. It is a movement of hope and empowerment—a declaration that the future of Enugu State will not be limited by financial barriers,” Enwerem said.
He described education as the foundation of sustainable development, noting that the scheme represents a strategic investment in the next generation of professionals and leaders, including doctors, engineers, lawyers, teachers, entrepreneurs, and innovators.
According to him, the intervention goes beyond financial assistance. “This programme is not charity; it is strategic empowerment. It aligns with the vision of youth inclusion, educational access, and human capital development. When we educate our youths, we secure our economy. When we empower our students, we strengthen our nation,” he stated.
Enwerem urged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity by preparing diligently for their examinations, emphasizing discipline, determination, and excellence.
He also reassured parents and guardians that the initiative is designed to ease their financial burden and reaffirm that their children’s futures remain a priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
