Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has commended the resilience, strength, and determination of Nigerian women in promoting global peace as they mark this year’s International Women’s Day celebration.

Rt Hon Guwor, who stated this in a statement made available to newsmen by his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Nkem Nwaeke, congratulated the women on the celebration, saying that Nigerian women have continued to demonstrate exceptional commitment to promoting peace, stability, and development in Nigeria and globally.

Guwor, who is the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, noted that a good number of women have continued to make invaluable contributions to peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and community development in their efforts to help shape the narrative of progress and prosperity in Nigeria.

He said, “We celebrate the incredible contributions women make to our societies, communities, and families. Your tireless efforts in shaping the future of our nation and the world are invaluable.”

While felicitating with the mothers on the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration, the Conference Chairman urged the women to continue to be agents of change, promoting unity, tolerance, and understanding in their communities.

He emphasized that their role in shaping the future of the nation cannot be overstated, and that their efforts will continue to be supported by the legislative arm of government across the country.

Guwor assured the women of the commitment of the Conference of Speakers to supporting policies and programmes that promote gender equality, women’s empowerment, and development.

He described the theme for this year’s Celebration, “Rights, Justice, Action, For All Women and Girls”, with the campaign slogan “Give to Gain”, as apt, as it focuses on structural accountability, closing justice gaps, and defending the rights of women as well as advancing gender equality.

“As we celebrate the achievements of women today, let us also acknowledge the challenges that still exist and reaffirm our commitment to creating a more just and equitable society for all,” he said.

“We must continue to work together to address issues such as gender-based violence, inequality, and discrimination, and ensure that women have equal opportunities to participate in the development of our nation.

“I urge you to keep pushing boundaries, break barriers, and strive for excellence. Your role in shaping the future is crucial,” Guwor added.
