The Edo State Government has commenced a Train-the-Trainer Programme to equip vocational and technical teachers with modern skills, digital technologies, and innovative teaching methods.

The programme, organised by the state Ministry of Education under the leadership of the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Washington Osifo, is aimed at strengthening teachers’ capacity and preparing them for the changing demands of education in the digital age.

Representing Gov. Monday Okpebholo at the programme, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Musa Yakubu, stressed the importance of continuous learning and professional development among teachers.

The training focuses on industry-relevant technical skills, digital technologies, competency-based teaching methods, and emerging innovations, including artificial intelligence, to improve teaching and learning across the state.

Participants are being introduced to digital tools and practical techniques designed to make classroom teaching more engaging and effective while helping students develop skills relevant to the modern economy.

The government said the initiative reflects its commitment to strengthening the education system by investing in teachers’ knowledge and professional capacity, alongside school infrastructure.

It said vocational and technical teachers were being prioritised because of their role in equipping students with practical, digital, and technical skills needed to compete in today’s economy.

The government said the programme is part of the administration’s broader effort to build an innovative, technology-driven and skills-focused education system responsive to the needs of 21st-century learners.
