There was a mild drama at the Senate house yesterday as the Nigerian Senate ruled Senator Natasha Akpoti -Uduaghan out of order during plenary session.
The ruling came after Akpoti -Uduaghan attempted to revisit a matter that had already been stepped down, specifically a clause related to abortion.
Senate President God’swill Akpabio reminded her that the issue had been concluded and cited Rule 52, sub 6, which prohibits reconsidering matters already concluded during the current session.
This was after Senator Adams Oshiomhole raised an objections to Senator Natasha Akpoti -Uduaghan’s attempt to revisit the abortion clause which he considered inappropriate.
This recent development may not be unconnected as it’s being observed, with the ongoing controversy between Akpoti -Uduaghan and the Senate leadership.
The Senate actions have sparked debate about it’s handling of internal conflicts and adherence to it’s rules.
