The Edo State chapter of the Energy & Maritime Reporters (EMR) has announced plans to hold its inaugural meeting on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre, GRA, Benin City.
The meeting is expected to bring together journalists and media practitioners committed to strengthening reportage of Nigeria’s energy and maritime sectors from Edo State,the heartbeat of the nation.
In a statement, Chairman of the group Comrade Andrew Ohwobetehe, said EMR, an emerging media-focused group with roots in the Niger Delta, is dedicated to intensifying professional coverage of developments in the energy and maritime industries while promoting public awareness of opportunities within both sectors.
The organisation’s chapter in Edo he said would serve as a platform for journalists to collaborate, share industry knowledge, and deepen reporting on critical issues affecting the oil and gas, maritime, and blue economy sectors.
Pioneer members of the Edo State chapter include Andrew Ohwobetehe, Eubaldus Enahoro, Osehobo Ofure, Edoko Wilson, Otabor Friday Osagie, Joseph Kanjo, Adebisi Korede, Francis Ogbuagu and Monday Oise, among others.
The inaugural meeting will discuss the chapter’s operational plans, programmes, and strategies for effective media engagement within the energy and maritime industries.
The group also reiterated its commitment to promoting professionalism among journalists covering the sectors through regular training, industry engagement, and public advocacy initiatives.
EMR annually marks key industry events such as World Ocean Day and World Maritime Day, while also organising recognition awards and capacity-building programmes for journalists and stakeholders in the maritime and energy sectors.
Comrade Andrew Ohwobetehe is expected to coordinate activities for the inaugural session in Benin City.
