UYO, AKWA IBOM —  Harrison Ndifreke has assumed office as the Chairman of the Energy and Maritime Reporters of Nigeria (EMR), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, with a pledge to promote professionalism, ethical journalism, capacity building and strategic partnerships within the energy and maritime reporting community.

Ndifreke made the commitment on Tuesday during the inauguration of the newly elected Executive Council of the association in Akwa Ibom State.

In his acceptance speech, the new chairman expressed gratitude to the national leadership of EMR for the confidence reposed in him and his team, describing the inauguration as the beginning of a renewed commitment to advancing the practice of energy and maritime journalism in the state and across Nigeria.

He also paid tribute to the outgoing State Chairman, Dr. Saviour Ekpe, commending his dedication, sacrifices and contributions to the growth of the association.

“We shall build upon the foundation that has been laid,” Ndifreke assured.

According to him, the energy and maritime sectors remain critical drivers of economic growth and national development, emphasizing the need for journalists covering the sectors to provide accurate, balanced and insightful reports that promote transparency and sustainable development.

The new chairman outlined key priorities for his administration, including strengthening members’ capacity through regular training programmes, fostering strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders, promoting professional ethics, encouraging investigative journalism and enhancing the visibility and relevance of the association.

Ndifreke further pledged to prioritize unity among members, noting that the association’s strength lies in its collective commitment to excellence and professionalism.

He called on members to support the new administration through constructive engagement, innovative ideas and active participation in the affairs of the association.

“To our stakeholders and partners, we look forward to your continued cooperation and support as we work together to promote responsible journalism and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the energy and maritime sectors,” he said.

He assured members and stakeholders that the new executive would serve with integrity, dedication and a strong sense of purpose.

The newly inaugurated Executive Council of EMR, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, comprises Harrison Ndifreke as Chairman; Helen John as Vice Chairman; Mabel Ekanem as Secretary; Josephine Ekpa as Treasurer; Deborah Young as Auditor; Ofonime Honesty as Assistant Secretary; Udeme Utip as Public Relations Officer (PRO); Unyime Ekwere, KSJ, as Welfare Officer; Comrade Solomon Okpo as Director of Programmes; and Diananasi Effiong as Director of Marketing.

The inauguration ceremony attracted members of the association, media practitioners, industry stakeholders and invited guests from within and outside the state.
