Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu has directed Commissioners of Police (CPs) across the country and tactical commanders to immediately intensify enforcement operations against vehicles operating without valid number plates.

The directive was issued on Tuesday during a strategic conference meeting with senior police officers, where security, law enforcement, and public safety issues were discussed.

According to Disu, the renewed enforcement drive is aimed at strengthening security measures and improving the ability of law enforcement agencies to identify and track vehicles involved in criminal activities. He stressed the need for police commands nationwide to ensure strict compliance with vehicle registration regulations.

The directive requires CPs and tactical units to step up surveillance, conduct targeted operations, and take appropriate action against motorists found driving vehicles without number plates or with improperly displayed registration numbers.

Security experts have long raised concerns that unregistered vehicles are often used by criminal elements to evade identification and frustrate investigations. The latest order is therefore expected to bolster ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and improve crime detection.

Motorists have been advised to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and fitted with approved number plates to avoid sanctions during the enforcement exercise.

Further details on the scope and duration of the operation are expected to emerge in the coming days.Recommended headline for maximum online engagement:
