BENIN CITY — Chairman of the Edo State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Rev. Frank Omobude, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day, commending the resilience of the country’s democratic system and praising Governor Monday Okpebholo for what he described as remarkable achievements across various sectors of Edo State’s economy.
In a Democracy Day message, Omobude also saluted the champions of democracy whose sacrifices, commitment, and contributions helped sustain democratic governance in Nigeria since the country’s return to civilian rule in 1999.
According to him, Democracy Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the gains of democratic governance and appreciate the efforts of those who fought to protect the rights, lives, and property of Nigerians.
He noted that despite numerous challenges, Nigeria has remained united and committed to democratic principles, adding that democracy remains the most effective platform for delivering development and good governance to the people.
“Stable democracy remains the best vehicle for delivering the dividends of governance to citizens at the urban, semi-urban, and grassroots levels,” Omobude stated.
The cleric specifically lauded Governor Okpebholo’s administration, describing the governor as a visionary and pragmatic leader whose projects and policies are having visible impacts across the state.
He cited ongoing road construction projects, the revival of the Edo Line Transport Company with the acquisition of new buses, the construction of the state’s first flyover at Ramat Park and Sapele Road, as well as the reconstruction of schools and renovation of primary healthcare centres as notable achievements of the administration.
Omobude also commended the governor’s efforts in strengthening security through the provision of operational vehicles to security agencies and sustained actions against cultism, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.
According to him, the governor has demonstrated a strong commitment to inclusive governance and effective collaboration with other tiers of government in advancing development across the state.
He assured that the Christian community in Edo State would continue to pray for peace, unity, and sustainable development, while also supporting the administration’s efforts to improve the welfare of residents.
Omobude expressed optimism that the Okpebholo-led administration would continue to deliver meaningful development projects and fulfil its mandate to the people of Edo State.
