Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has called for unity within the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging party members to set aside past political differences and focus on winning future elections.
Omo-Agege’s remarks followed comments reportedly made by Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, during a lecture in Lagos titled “Inclusive Governance and National Unity: Lessons from Delta State for a United Nigeria,” where the governor referenced the 2023 governorship election.
In a statement, Omo-Agege said that although he would have responded strongly under different political circumstances, the current alignment within the APC calls for restraint and cooperation. “We are now one family under the APC. What Delta APC needs today is not division, but unity,” he said.
The former governorship candidate noted that the 2023 election had been conclusively settled by the courts and should no longer be a subject of public debate. He acknowledged the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming Oborevwori’s victory and reiterated his respect for the outcome.
According to him, the focus should now shift toward preparations for the 2027 general elections. He emphasized his commitment to securing victories for APC candidates at all levels, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Reflecting on his own performance in the 2023 election, Omo-Agege expressed pride in the over 240,000 votes he secured in Delta Central Senatorial District, thanking supporters for their loyalty and pledging continued service.
He also used the opportunity to highlight achievements from his tenure in the National Assembly, including legislative support for institutions such as the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun; the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun; and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale. He further cited his role in facilitating the establishment of the Oil and Gas Industrial Park and the Nigerian Defence Space School in Delta State.
Omo-Agege called on Governor Oborevwori, whom he described as the APC leader in the state, to work collaboratively toward reconciliation and inclusiveness within the party. He urged supporters to avoid divisive rhetoric and instead promote the party’s record with “civility, dignity, and respect.”
“Only a united APC can deliver Delta State and secure victory in 2027,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to working with party leaders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, to achieve that goal.
He concluded by encouraging party faithful to remain focused and optimistic, stressing that unity must remain the party’s strongest asset moving forward.
