Asaba, Delta State – Asaba Specialist Hospital has commenced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services with the installation of a cutting-edge Siemens 1.5 Tesla helium-free MRI scanner, becoming the first healthcare facility in Nigeria to deploy the innovative technology.
The milestone was announced by the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. Peace Ighosewe, who described the development as a major step forward in strengthening healthcare delivery in Delta State.
Dr. Ighosewe commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, for what she described as a visionary investment in the state’s health sector, noting that the acquisition demonstrates the administration’s commitment to improving access to quality and specialised healthcare services.
To mark the launch of the MRI unit, the hospital offered free MRI scans to patients over a two-day period, which concluded on Friday. More than 10 patients benefitted from the initiative.
According to the Chief Medical Director, the new MRI scanner will significantly improve access to advanced diagnostic imaging, reduce the need for patients to travel outside Delta State for MRI examinations, and support quicker, more accurate diagnosis and treatment.
She explained that the Siemens 1.5 Tesla helium-free MRI system represents a significant advancement in medical imaging technology and will further strengthen the hospital’s diagnostic capacity.
Reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to accessible, modern, and patient-centred healthcare, Dr. Ighosewe said the project aligns with Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, which prioritises improvements in critical sectors, including healthcare.
She added that Asaba Specialist Hospital will continue to invest in modern medical technology and skilled personnel to enhance healthcare outcomes and provide quality medical services to residents of Delta State and beyond.
