Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, on Thursday commenced a two-week annual leave, his first official vacation since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
The leave, which began on August 6, 2026, was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Shettima is expected to resume official duties around August 20.
According to a statement, the Vice President will use the period for study, reflection, intellectual renewal, and to review ongoing government policies as part of preparations for the next phase of the administration’s programmes.
Before proceeding on leave, Shettima had played a key role in coordinating several strategic initiatives of the Tinubu administration, particularly in the areas of economic growth, food security, digital transformation, and intergovernmental collaboration through the National Economic Council (NEC), which he chairs.
The statement noted that the Vice President is expected to return with renewed energy and commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and advancing the administration’s development objectives.
