A coup attempt in the Republic of Benin has failed after mutinous soldiers, dressed in military uniform, tried unsuccessfully to overthrow the democratically elected government of President Patrice Talon on Sunday.
The group briefly seized the National Television station following their failed attempt to access the president’s residence.
According to the latest updates from Cotonou, the National Guard has taken charge of the situation and encircled the broadcasting facility.
Local outlet 24 Hours in Benin reports that negotiations are currently underway with the mutineers, who remain barricaded inside the station.
