Colonel Benjamin Adekunle, known as the “Black Scorpion,” was one of the most well-known figures during the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970). He was famous, and sometimes feared, for his tough approach, often described as shooting at anything that moved. This showed just how intense and brutal the war had become.
He led the 3rd Marine Commando, a key unit in the Nigerian Army. Under his command, they captured important Biafran cities like Bonny, Calabar, and Port Harcourt. These victories were major setbacks for Biafra and helped the federal government gain the upper hand in the war.
Adekunle was a bold and determined leader. While many saw him as a hero, others criticized his harsh tactics. Even today, people still talk about his role in the war and the impact he had on Nigerian history.
