The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as it commenced its presidential primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that unlike some parties, it would not “jump from 3 to 30 or from 500 to 1000” while counting votes.
The party made the remarks on Monday in Abuja as voting began across the country to determine its presidential candidate.
Speaking at the exercise, Chairman of the ADC Presidential Primaries Election Committee, Ikechi Emenike, said the party remains committed to transparency, inclusiveness, and internal democracy at a time many Nigerians believe candidates are increasingly produced through political arrangements rather than open contests.
According to him, the ADC primary is designed to reflect genuine democratic competition among aspirants.
The contest features former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and economist as well as former Chairman of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Emenike said the party’s aspirants were “genuine presidential contenders” and not candidates selected merely to legitimise a predetermined outcome.
He further stated that the ADC would not manipulate figures to mislead Nigerians, insisting that only authentic vote counts would emerge from the process.
Also present at the briefing were the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, and National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo.
The ADC leadership urged party members participating in the exercise nationwide to ensure credibility and transparency throughout the voting process.
