The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has raised alarm over what it describes as “disturbing reports” of delayed or withheld security responses during attacks on predominantly Christian communities across the country.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the bishops condemned the deteriorating security situation and addressed growing allegations of a “Christian genocide” — a term the federal government has consistently dismissed.

According to the CBCN, the concerns stem from a pattern of prolonged and repeated assaults on Christian-dominated areas, particularly in the northern and middle belt regions.

“It is a matter of grave concern that several predominantly Christian communities… have come under repeated and brutal attacks, resulting in heavy casualties and the tragic loss of many Christian lives,” the statement said.

The bishops warned that the slow response by security agencies creates the troubling impression of complicity and called for urgent, transparent, and decisive action to protect vulnerable communities.
