Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has died at the age of 90.

 

Tukur, who was born on September 15, 1935, in Adamawa, died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, three days before his 91st birthday.

 

The elder statesman was a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and public life, and briefly served as Governor of Gongola State in 1983.

 

He was also a former National Chairman of the PDP, where he played a significant role in the affairs of the party during his tenure.

 

Tukur had an extensive educational background, having studied at the University of Pittsburgh, Ahmadu Bello University and the London School of Economics and Political Science.

 

He was married to Alhaja Fatima Tukur and was survived by several children, including Lami Danburam, Zainab Mustapha Jaji, Mahmud Bamanga Tukur and Anwal Tukur.

 

His death comes as a significant loss to Nigeria’s political community, particularly the PDP, where he remained a notable figure in the party’s history.

 

Details surrounding his death and funeral arrangements were not immediately available as of the time of filing this report.
