The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially overturned the result of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, initially won by Senegal national football team, and has instead declared Morocco national football team as the new champions following a landmark decision by its Appeal Committee.
In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, CAF’s Appeal Committee reviewed a formal protest and concluded that Morocco should be awarded a 3–0 victory over Senegal. The decision effectively nullifies the earlier 1–0 result that had seen Senegal crowned champions at the end of the tournament.
CAF stated that the ruling followed an examination of the circumstances surrounding the final and the protest submitted after the match. As a result, the governing body confirmed that Morocco’s national team, popularly known as the Atlas Lions, will now officially be recognised as the winners of the 2025 AFCON.
The decision marks a dramatic turn in one of the most controversial finals in recent tournament history, with CAF emphasizing that the verdict was reached after due consideration of the regulations and evidence presented during the appeal process.
Further details regarding the ruling and its implications for the teams involved are expected to be released by CAF in the coming days.
