Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has commended Assembly Correspondents for their accurate, balanced, and timely reportage of legislative activities in the state.

Rt Hon Guwor gave the commendation when journalists covering the Assembly, led by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, paid him a congratulatory visit in his office in Asaba following his emergence as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria.

Addressing the Correspondents, the Speaker lauded their professionalism, orderliness, and prompt coverage of plenary sessions and other legislative engagements in the state.

He noted that their efforts had significantly enhanced the visibility of the House, boosting publicity among the comity of state legislatures and keeping the public well-informed about the workings of the Assembly.

“I must sincerely appreciate your professionalism and dedication to duty. Your accurate and balanced reportage has not only projected the activities of the Delta State House of Assembly but has also ensured that Deltans remain adequately informed about our resolutions and legislative interventions”, Guwor said.

The Speaker stressed that a vibrant, responsible, and objective media remains indispensable to democratic governance, describing the press as a critical bridge between the legislature and the people.

“The media does more than report proceedings. You help deepen public understanding of legislative processes and policies. In doing so, you strengthen transparency, accountability, and public trust in governance”, he emphasized.

The Chairman of Conference of Speakers urged the correspondents to sustain their diligence, fairness, and commitment to ethical journalism in order to further consolidate public confidence in the legislative arm of government.

“Let me encourage you to continue in this spirit of fairness and responsibility. Democracy thrives when the media remains professional and objective,” Guwor added.

Earlier, speaking on behalf of the Assembly Correspondents, Mr. Austine Akanigah of the Delta State Ministry of Information congratulated the Speaker on his election as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria.

He described the emergence of Rt. Hon. Guwor as well-deserved, citing his administrative competence, exemplary leadership qualities, and impressive track record of service.

“Your emergence as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers is a reflection of your capacity, integrity, and the confidence your colleagues across the country have in your leadership. We are proud that Delta State is producing leadership at the national legislative level”, he said.

Akanigah assured the Speaker of the correspondents’ continued support and unwavering commitment to providing timely, accurate, and comprehensive coverage of legislative activities in the state.

He commended the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, for fostering a cordial working relationship with the media and ensuring effective reportage of the Speaker and the activities of the State Assembly.

“Your CPS ability to build strong relationships with the media has been instrumental in showcasing the the vision of the office of the Speaker and the Assembly’s achievements. In fact Nwaeke’s cordial relationship with Journalists, especially the Assembly Correspondents has made our job easier”, Akanigah stressed.

He prayed for more and higher accomplishments by the Speaker and his team.

The visit, which was marked by goodwill and mutual appreciation, underscored the importance of collaboration between the legislature and the media in promoting good governance and democratic consolidation in Delta State.
