There are strong indications of a major breakthrough in the ongoing reconciliation efforts within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta South Senatorial District, following a peace meeting between the Senator representing the district, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, and former Delta State House of Assembly member, Hon. Prince Michael Diden, popularly known as Ejele.

The meeting, held on Sunday at Diden’s residence, brought together key APC leaders and stakeholders in the senatorial district in a fresh effort to resolve lingering differences and strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Senator Onowakpo led a high-powered delegation to the meeting, which included the Delta South APC Senatorial District Chairman, Prince Emmam Amgbaduba; the Delta State Chief of Staff, Hon. Prince Johnson Erijo; chairmen of the APC across the eight local government areas in Delta South; and other prominent party leaders, including Sir Mike Ogwa and Arc. (Dcn.) Ambby Okuhor.

The meeting was widely regarded by party supporters as a significant step towards rebuilding unity within the APC in Delta South, particularly following disagreements among some stakeholders.

Discussions at the meeting reportedly centred on reconciliation, the resolution of outstanding issues and the need to consolidate the party’s political structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

A major highlight of the meeting was Diden’s reported decision to withdraw the court case he instituted against Senator Onowakpo, signalling his willingness to bring the legal dispute to an end and embrace a fresh phase of reconciliation.

Diden also reportedly pledged to work closely with Senator Onowakpo and other party leaders, while mobilising his supporters across Delta South for the success of the APC and its candidate in the forthcoming senatorial election.

The development has generated excitement among party members and supporters, who believe the rapprochement could mark a turning point in the APC’s efforts to consolidate its political base across the senatorial district.

Stakeholders said the reconciliation could help bridge divisions among the various tendencies within the party and create a more united political structure capable of mounting a stronger campaign ahead of 2027.

The renewed understanding between Onowakpo and Diden is also expected to ease tensions among their respective supporters and redirect the focus of party members towards strengthening the APC at the grassroots.

With the 2027 general elections drawing closer, party leaders are increasingly emphasising unity, reconciliation and collective mobilisation as critical ingredients for electoral success.

For APC stakeholders in Delta South, the message from the meeting appears clear: bury the differences, unite the structure and prepare for 2027.

The rapprochement between Senator Joel-Onowakpo and Ejele could therefore become one of the most significant developments in the ongoing efforts to reposition the APC for a stronger electoral showing in Delta South.
