DELTA SPEAKER GUWOR DECLARES FOR REELECTION, VOWS CONSOLIDATION IN WARRI SOUTH-WEST

The political atmosphere in Warri South-West brightened on Monday as the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, formally declared his intention for reelection into the Delta State House of Assembly.

Rt. Hon. Guwor, who picked his nomination and expression of interest forms, announced the decision at a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting at Ogbe-Ijoh, headquarters of Warri South-West Local Government, where he received overwhelming support from youth groups, women leaders, political and opinion leaders drawn from the ten wards of Warri South-West.

The declaration confirms months of expectations from constituents urging the 47-year-old lawmaker to “continue the good work” and consolidate the gains already recorded since his first election to the 7th Assembly and his emergence as Speaker in the 8th Assembly.

Guwor has redefined representation for Warri South-West. From legislative advocacy to direct constituency interventions, his tenure has been marked by visibility, accessibility, and measurable impact.

Under his watch, Warri South-West has witnessed unprecedented attention in physical infrastructure, education, health delivery, empowerment, and social services. He facilitated the construction and renovation of classroom blocks, staff quarters, and other educational facilities across communities in the constituency.

Over 500 tertiary education scholarships have been awarded to students of the constituency, while desks, textbooks, and learning materials have been regularly distributed to schools across the riverine constituency.

In health, the Speaker initiated quarterly free medical outreaches covering all ten wards, facilitated the upgrade of Primary Health Centres and donated medical equipment and drugs to cottage hospitals. His empowerment programmes have trained over 600 youths in ICT, welding, fashion design, and fish farming, with over 400 beneficiaries receiving startup grants and starter packs. Women cooperative schemes have also received sustained support under his watch.

On infrastructure, Rt. Hon. Guwor has facilitated shoreline protection projects in vulnerable communities, installed solar streetlights across several community corridors, and continues to attract state intervention for internal roads and jetties, among other efforts aimed at improving public infrastructure and the quality of life for the people of Warri South-West.

At the state level, Speaker Guwor’s leadership of the House has been hailed as firm, inclusive, and reform-driven. He presided over the passage of critical bills, while maintaining a rancour-free Assembly that worked in synergy with the Executive.

His national elevation as Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, further underscored his legislative depth and peer acceptance. He has been at the forefront of harmonizing standing orders for State Assemblies, digital transformation of legislative processes, and stronger sub-national fiscal oversight — bringing honour to Delta State and Warri South-West as a worthy ambassador.

Party leaders, youth and women representatives, and community stakeholders insist Guwor’s reelection is not about personal ambition, but about “unfinished business” in Warri South-West.

“The Speaker has given our constituency a voice that resonates beyond Asaba. For the first time, we have a ranking member whose influence opens doors in Abuja and attracts projects home. To replace such experience with uncertainty is a risk Warri South-West cannot afford,” said a community leader in the constituency.

His Royal Majesty, Oboro Gbaraun II, Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, once noted: “Guwor has brought respect and projects to Warri South-West. His position as Speaker helps us. We ask him to continue.”

A woman leader in the constituency echoed the sentiment: “Before now, our mothers paddled hours to access healthcare. Today, we have health outreach boats and improved primary health centres because our son is Speaker. We are saying he must continue.”

Another described Guwor as “a bridge between government and the creeks,” adding that his interventions in education scholarships, ICT training, and peace advocacy have reduced youth restiveness. “We need him back to consolidate.”

Political analysts say Guwor’s reelection transcends Warri South-West, describing it as a state interest because he represents institutional memory, national reach, and legislative craftsmanship.

The Speaker in a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke was unequivocal about his mission:

“My journey in public service has always been about the people of Warri South-West. Whatever I am today — Speaker of Delta State Assembly, Chairman of Conference of Speakers — I owe to their trust. I have always listened to our fathers, mothers, and youths. I will never turn my back on their call to service,” Guwor stated.

“We have started something significant in legislation, in infrastructure, in human capital. But consolidation is key. Warri South-West needs continuity, experience, and a strong voice at the table where decisions are made. By the grace of God and the will of our people, we will continue,” the Speaker added.

As one elder put it at the stakeholders’ meeting: “We planted a tree and it is already bearing fruit. This is no time to uproot it. We shall remain strong and united in making it flourish.”
