Widows benefiting from the Delta State Government’s Welfare Scheme have received their October monthly stipends, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable households across the 25 local government areas.

The payment, which forms part of the sustained social intervention programmes of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, is designed to provide financial relief to widows facing economic hardship and other challenges associated with the loss of their spouses.

The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes, Chief Dr Isioma Okonta, commended the governor for sustaining the initiative and ensuring the regular disbursement of monthly stipends to beneficiaries.

Okonta described the continued payment as a demonstration of Oborevwori’s commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable citizens and translating the people-oriented objectives of his MORE Agenda into tangible benefits.

He explained that the financial assistance had become an important source of support for many beneficiaries, helping them meet basic household expenses, provide for their children and cope with the rising cost of living.

According to him, the scheme has brought some measure of financial stability and reassurance to thousands of widows across the state, underscoring the government’s determination to ensure that vulnerable residents are not left behind.

He added that the governor had demonstrated through the initiative that responsive governance must prioritise the needs of citizens who require special attention and support.

Okonta urged beneficiaries to utilise the stipends judiciously, while encouraging them to continue supporting the state government with prayers as it pursues its development programmes.

Some beneficiaries, who expressed appreciation for the latest payment, described the monthly stipends as timely and impactful, noting that the financial support helps them address pressing family responsibilities.

They also praised Governor Oborevwori for sustaining the programme and remembering widows across the state, while praying for God’s continued guidance, strength and wisdom for the governor.

The continued disbursement highlights the importance of targeted social welfare interventions in cushioning the effects of economic hardship and providing a safety net for vulnerable families.

For the beneficiaries, however, the monthly stipends go beyond financial assistance. They represent a sense of inclusion, care and reassurance that their welfare remains an important consideration in the Delta State Government’s development agenda.
