The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has cautioned Corps Members against absconding from national service, urging them to remain committed and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
General Nafiu gave the advice while addressing 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camps in Ogun and Oyo States.
Commending the Corps Members for answering the call to national service, the NYSC boss also advised them to practise prudent financial management, noting that responsible handling of resources would benefit them both during and after the service year.
He further urged the young Nigerians to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities and to maintain good conduct throughout their service.
“When you are posted to your place of primary assignment, respect their rules, be punctual, be resourceful and learn the culture of the organisation you are posted to,” Nafiu said.
Earlier, the NYSC Ogun State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu, informed the Director-General that a total of 3,341 Corps Members, including 975 originally deployed to Lagos State, were registered at the Ogun Orientation Camp.
She noted that the Corps Members had conducted themselves responsibly and adapted well to the regimented camp life.
“All camp officials are also performing their duties diligently with a high sense of synergy,” Nasamu added.
In Oyo State, the NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Kayode Ola-Peters, disclosed that 3,068 Corps Members were registered in the camp.
According to him, the Corps Members had displayed commendable character, participated actively in camp activities and expressed readiness to contribute to national development across various sectors.
