BENIN CITY — The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has appealed to members of the public to help identify the family of a two-year-old girl found abandoned at Ramat Park in Benin City.
The ministry said the child, identified as Treasure, was discovered on Thursday by a good Samaritan, who immediately reported the incident to the Ikpoba Hill Police Station.
According to the ministry, the matter was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (State C.I.D.), where preliminary investigations were conducted before the child was officially handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for care and protection.
The ministry disclosed that the girl, who is about two years old and of dark complexion, is currently receiving proper care in a safe environment while efforts continue to trace her parents, guardians or other relatives.
It called on members of the public to assist by sharing information about the child, expressing optimism that public cooperation would help reunite her with her family.
“The Ministry believes that every child deserves the love, care and protection of a family and is hopeful that timely information from the public will lead to Treasure’s swift reunion with her loved ones,” the statement said.
Anyone who recognizes the child or has useful information about her identity or family has been urged to visit the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Ground Floor, Block C, State Secretariat Complex, Benin City.
The ministry appealed to residents to circulate the information widely to increase the chances of locating the child’s family.
