A ghastly accident occurred a few minutes ago near the NUJ Secretariat Junction on Maryam Babangida Way, Asaba, Delta State.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing the screeching sound of a Benz saloon car moving at a very high speed, apparently driven by an inexperienced motorist.
“From observations, the driver had intended to make a turn into the road leading to 11:59 Lounge. Unfortunately, despite realizing too late that the maneuver was unsafe, he still attempted it”.
According to the eyewitness, the vehicle ended up scaling the culvert pavement but was eventually halted by the drainage barrier along the 11:59 route.
“Thankfully, no lives were lost, and no bystanders were injured. The four occupants of the car, including a young lady, escaped without visible physical harm, an outcome many at the scene attributed to divine mercy”.
However, this incident highlights a recurring and disturbing trend, the reckless driving and excessive speeding that have turned Maryam Babangida Way into a virtual race trac.
